AVA responds to criticism from special interest groups
AVA has come under criticism for taking a position on the Animals (Regulation of Sale) Bill 2007. The AVA has responded by clearly outlining their support for increased regulation of all sources of animals including pet shops, breeders, rescue organisations and shelters.
Pet shops represent a minor source of pets, and a ban on the sale of pets through pet shops will not achieve the intended reduction of euthanasia of shelter animals.
